The Minister of Economy, Pedro Ortega, said on Tuesday that this legislature has managed to move from 10 to 20 percent of installed renewable energy, which has allowed, he added that on some occasion the penetration of renewable energy system reaches 54 percent.
Ortega, in response to a question from the deputy of Podemos Concepción Mónzón on energy sovereignty, has said that the more power is installed, the more renewable penetration there will be in the energy mix.
He referred to two specific days, one of them two Sundays when a renewable penetration of 54 percent was achieved in Tenerife and another day 46% in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Ortega has said that having 20 percent of installed energy does not mean a 20 percent penetration in the system since this percentage can be much higher depending on factors such as sun or wind.
As an example, he mentioned that the first quarter of this year “does not add up” because there has not been much wind but he has been convinced that after the marine wind turbine and other facilities begin to operate, the percentage of renewables in the energy system will increase.
The counselor has said that you can not work “crazy” but in a clear and rigorous way.
On the other hand, the deputy of Podemos Concepción Monzón referred to the different declarations of the President of the Government about the objectives in renewable and has indicated that in 2018 the penetration of these energies in the Canarian energy system was 10.5 percent, far from the 20 percent to which the Canarian president had referred.
Monzón has asserted that the installed capacity can not be translated into an energy mix with more renewables and has stated that the facilities are obsolete and not very flexible. EFE
